KOROR, Palau — Starting January 13, homebound seniors in Babeldaob and outlying states will receive hot lunches through a partnership between the Old Age Program, the Ministry of Education, and state governments.
Minister Gaafar Uherbelau of the Ministry of Health and Human Services announced the initiative during a press conference on Wednesday, January 8.
Currently, hot meals for senior citizens are provided exclusively at the Old Age Center in Koror. This new program marks the first time homebound seniors in other states will have access to hot lunches. Under the arrangement, school kitchens will prepare the meals, and state governments will handle delivery.
“This will be extended to the homebound first,” said Minister Uherbelau, defining homebound seniors as those with mobility challenges that prevent them from leaving their homes.
Uherbelau expressed gratitude to state governors for their support in making the program possible, emphasizing the collaboration needed to serve Palau’s aging population. (By: L.N. Reklai)
