A Family’s Plea for Answers
Nearly four months after Tellames “Lamz” Johannes was found at the Koror State Animal Shelter, his family continues to seek answers. His body was discovered on the morning of October 28, 2024, by Koror State Rangers.
Authorities have classified the case as a homicide, but with no arrests made, his loved ones remain hopeful that someone in the community can provide information to help bring closure.
A Life Remembered: “He Had the Biggest Heart”
Tellames Johannes was known for his kindness and generosity. He was a devoted husband, father figure, and uncle who always looked out for others.
“He had the biggest heart—not just with family, but even with strangers. If he knew you needed help, he would help,” said Beckwin Mecholl Jr., his nephew and a rising musician in Palau.
Mechol credits his uncle for encouraging him to pursue his dreams and always being a source of support.
“My uncle was the reason why I am humble. He supported me, pushed me to refine my talent, and always looked out for me,” Mechol shared. “He was like that with everyone.”
Johannes worked at Koror State before becoming a security guard at the Koror State Animal Shelter, a role he held for more than three years. His dedication to his job and his family was well known among those who knew him.
Seeking Answers: A Call for Community Support
On February 20, 2025, the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) announced a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction. The reward highlights the importance of public cooperation in helping to resolve this case.
Unanswered cases can impact the entire community, and every effort counts in ensuring safety and trust in Palau.
Mechol emphasized. “We hope that someone who knows something will come forward.”
The family remains hopeful and encourages anyone with information—no matter how small—to step forward.
“If you know something, please speak up. Any information counts,” Mechol urged.
BPS is asking anyone with knowledge of the case to call the Tips Hotline at 488-8477.
