TARAWA (RADIO KIRIBATI) — Kiribati has confirmed another Covid-19 death, raising the country’s death toll from the virus to 13.

The latest victim is a 32-year-old patient who was fully vaccinated but suffered from a serious health condition.

A report from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services said nine new Covid-19 cases have also been confirmed.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 3,000 – 42 imported cases and 2,958 community cases from South Tarawa, Betio, Buota, Butaritari, North Tarawa, Abaiang, Abemama, Makin and Aranuka.

There have been 2,366 recoveries and nine remain at isolation facilities.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services says it continues to administer Covid-19 booster shots to people aged 60 years and above and those with non-communicable diseases on South Tarawa and Betio.

A statement from the ministry said people aged 60 years and above who have received the Sinopharm vaccine should have their third dose, three months after receiving their second dose. They are also required to get their booster dose, five months after their third dose.

The booster dose currently being administered by health authorities is the AstraZeneca vaccine.
