Originally scheduled to Arrive Today, Kiribati Team Now expected on June 26
Koror, Palau (Island Times) – June 20, 2025 — Kiribati was expected to be the first Pacific Island nation to arrive in Palau for the 2025 Pacific Mini Games, but a change in travel plans has pushed their arrival to June 26—just three days before the opening ceremony.
With 64 athletes set to compete, the Kiribati team had initially planned to land early due to flight schedule. That advantage should have enabled them to acclimate, train at the venues, and enjoy some time to explore the host country ahead of the Games. That timeline has now shifted, and with other teams preparing for their own arrivals, it is no longer certain whether Kiribati will be the first delegation to reach Palau.
The early arrival was seen as a potential advantage, offering more time to adjust to local conditions and fine-tune performance strategies. While Kiribati may still be among the earlier teams to arrive, the update means their lead is no longer guaranteed.
The Pacific Mini Games, kicking off on June 29, will bring together athletes from across the region in a celebration of sport and unity. With teams expected to arrive in waves over the next several days, the race to be the first has opened up.
According to the sister state host representative from Ngardmau state, the Kiribati team is expected to arrive on June 26, 2025, ETA 21:05.
