Koror, Palau (May 11, 2026) — A community led initiative to restore the Ngesaol watershed in Koror State is now underway, with the Koror State Youth Council and community members leading efforts to strengthen water resilience for future generations amid ongoing dry conditions affecting reliable water sources.
Supported through the Communities Climate Adaptation Facility (C-CAF), the project provides direct support to communities to implement locally driven climate adaptation solutions responsive to community needs.
To support restoration activities, the Government of Palau, in partnership with the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM), officially handed over equipment during a ceremony attended by MPII Minister Charles Obichang and Mr. Xavier Erbai Matsutaro of the Office of Climate Change.
“This project is not only a solution to strengthen our watershed,” Minister Obichang said. “It is also an investment in building the capacity of our communities, especially our youth, represented here today by the Koror State Youth Council. It empowers them to take ownership of resilience, from the development of ideas to implementation, ensuring that the next generation leads the way in building stronger and more resilient communities.”
The equipment was received by Governor Eyos Rudimch on behalf of the Koror State Government.
“When communities are given the right tools and support, they are fully capable of leading meaningful change and protecting the resources they depend on,” Governor Rudimch said.
Also present were members of the Koror State Youth Council, led by Vice President Ms. Pauline Jerry of Ngerkebesang Hamlet, reflecting the important role of youth leadership in advancing community based climate resilience efforts in Koror.
