The Koror State Government and the Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the construction of public restrooms in six sites of Koror.

The project, which is part of the Koror-Airai Sanitation Project and is funded through a grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aims to provide public facilities not only for the people of Koror but also for visitors and tourists.

PPUC Chairman Gregorio Decherong and Koror State Governor Franco Gibbons had signed the MOU on November 2.

The potential sites to be used for the construction of the public restrooms are the Long Island Park, Icebox Park, Meyuns Sea Plane Ramp area, T Dock, Ernguul Central Park, and Renrak Park.

The MOU also emphasizes both parties must ensure that the implementation of the project will bring only minimal impact on the environment.

“The parties understand that the implementation of such improvements will require further planning and study to determine precise locations, suitable designs, lighting, and possible infrastructure improvements for safe and proper sewage and wastewater disposal,” the MOU reads. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
