The Koror House of Traditional Leaders is supporting the relocation of the Belau National Hospital from Meyuns but keeping it in Koror State.
In a letter to Senate President Hokkons Baules, traditional leaders led by Alexander Merep said that while the hospital must be moved from Meyuns to a safer location, “positioning the hospital in the population center will not only maximize convenience for the people but also promises substantial and long term economic benefits.”
Earlier, the Koror State Legislature passed a resolution urging the national government to move the BNH to a new site within Koror.
While advocating for a relocation, the resolution specifically proposes other potential sites such as Ngermid or other reclaimed land within Koror as potential sites, suggesting the current hospital’s location is better suited for a baseball field.
The resolution also argues that Koror’s central location makes it ideal for the national hospital.
The resolution also calls for discussions between Koror State and the national government to determine the most suitable location for the Belau National Hospital.
Koror isn’t the only state vying for the relocated hospital. Ngatpang and Airai states have already passed similar resolutions offering their land.
