The initial process of the legislation begun from a series of meetings held at local fishermen’s forum over the past year and has identified challenges within the domestic fisheries level. The idea is to recommend sustainable measures put in place to regulate marine laws and to control the trading of fish caught in the waters of Palau.
This legislation amends PNC Title 27 to require all commercial fishermen, sellers and purchasers of fish to obtain license from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Tourism (MNRET).
The Friends of Palau National Marine Sanctuary expressed the importance to maintain the health of Palau’s reef and fish populations on a long term benefit. [/restrict]
