Maris Stella School (MHS) will recognize three of its graduates in their first ever Distinguished Alumni Awards to be presented at a gala dinner, in celebration of the school’s 60th Anniversary, Saturday May 12 from 6:00 pm – 10:30 pm at Island Paradise Resort Club.

According to Blandina Yangilmau, MHS Development Officer said that the recipients of the alumni awards are Dr. Victor Yano, MD, Class of 1967; President Tommy Remengesau, Jr., Class of 1970; and Fr. Rusk R. Saburo, Class of 1976.

Remengesau originally served as the seventh president from 2001 to 2009 and again took office in 2013. His first public service post was as a senator in 1984, then elected as vice president in 1992 and served two terms. He was again elected in 2008 as a senator.

Yano is a former Health and State Minister while Fr. Saburo is a Roman Catholic priest.

In a statement, MHS said the awardees are recognized through their “outstanding achievements in their chosen field or profession, uses their talents and skills for those in need, consistent with their Maris Stella School foundation, and serves as a positive role model for students through consistent application of high moral and ethic standards.”

The dinner will also will bring together parents, alumni, family and friends of Maris Stella School to raise funds to benefit and improve the school as well as the student experience.
