The Ministry of State/ Bureau of Domestic Affairs (BDA) through the Local Governance Strengthening Project (LGSP) in partnership with the Palau Community College-Continuing Education held an opening ceremony for the initial Administrative/Office Management Course for the Five Pilot States & Ministry of State. The Course commenced on July 19, 2021 and will conclude on July 30, 2021. The Administrative / Office Management Course is a PCC-CE Certificate Program, therefore requires 40 hours training spanning over 10 days in a 4 hours classroom time setting. The Course is a result of an ongoing consultations and planning with the Pilot States and Palau Community College Continuing Education Program (PCC-CE) to strengthen state government capacities in area of administration / office management to further advance personnel skills and confidence in completing, documenting and reporting on assigned tasks successfully. One of the identified prerequisite areas of strengthening good governance amongst the 5 pilot states is to stress the significance of administrative work in the state governments i.e., hence the Course will cover Note Taking/ Producing Minutes from Meeting/Being a productive worker/Work Ethics/Business Etiquette, Civility, and Professionalism/Effective Communication/Business Writing/Customer Service/Emotional Intelligence/Multitasking Skills/Adaptability Skills/Attention to Detail/Resourcefulness Skills/Prioritizing Skills.

The short opening ceremony was graced with the opening prayer by Pastor Hedrick Kual, welcoming remarks of Dr. Patrick Tellei, special remarks by Hon. Vice President/Minister of State J. Uduch Sengebau Senior and short remarks by the training instructor Ms. Danka Ledgerwood and Director of Bureau of Domestic Affairs Ms. Eunice Akiwo. There are 23 participants from the pilot states office of the governors, state legislatures, PAN and Finance departments and 2 representatives from a government agency. The training is a foundational course that is aimed at strengthening the administrative support to the state governments and any interested agency. One of the ambitions of the project is to continue this course and to further launch a legislative training to support the state legislatures and rolling out the benefits of this trainings to the remaining state governments.

The training will conclude on July 30, 2021 and a short ceremony will be held to commemorate the achievements of the participants and to hand out certificates from the Palau Community College.
