KOROR, Palau – Reigning Miss Pacific Islands Moemoana Schwenke arrived in Palau on Friday, January 3, 2025, for her first-ever visit to the island nation. The Samoan beauty queen, who holds a background in indigenous studies and environmental humanities, was warmly welcomed by Palauan officials, cultural youth-leaders, and enthusiastic supporters at Roman Tmetuchl International Airport.
Schwenke was initially scheduled to visit Micronesia at the end of 2024, but, as she described it, “God’s plan” brought her here in early 2025 instead. Her visit is hosted by the Palau Visitors Authority and will include a week-long itinerary featuring tours of the iconic Rock Islands and an aerial excursion showcasing Palau’s breathtaking natural beauty.
In an interview with Delanie K. Termeteet on December 06, broadcasted on TMC, Schwenke shared her reflections on participating in the 2024 Festival of Pacific Arts (FestPac). “It was really special, and it’s hard to explain,” she said. “The pride you feel, like you’re a part of something so great… A quote we heard was that we should not be defined by the smallness of our islands but by the greatness of our oceans.”
Her visit to Palau highlights the importance of cultural heritage, environmental stewardship, and unity across the Pacific. Schwenke is set to attend community events, engage with youth, and participate in cultural exchanges throughout her stay.
