April 20, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Warnings of increasing number of gastroenteritis (blachediil ma mudech el secher) from the Bureau of Public Health has been declared an outbreak by Ministry of Health, with 130 cases confirmed as of April 16.


Of these cases, 23% are between the ages of 0 and 5 while 24% are school aged children with ages ranging from 6 to 19. Of those affected cases, 56% males and 45% females.

Ministry of Health’s Public Health continues to urge public to be mindful and take great care to wash hands with soap and sanitize, especially young children before consuming food.

Symptoms of gastroenteritis include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping and loss of appetite. It is really important to get enough fluids (including juice, Gatorade, and water) to balance electrolytes.
