Vice President and Minister of Justice Raynold Oilouch says his ministry aims to reduce crime rate level below 2018 numbers, which he said was 20% below 2017 numbers.

“Of course some criminal incidences increased but overall crime rate went down,” he added, attributing the reduced crime rate to higher police presence than before.

Five targeted goals for 2019 according to Vice President Oilouch include, 1) continuing to wage war on illegal drugs, 2) reducing crime rate below 2018 numbers, 3) more efficient and effective police work base on cooperation and collaboration with State governments, 4) installation of CCTV cameras in public places and 5) more public education and awareness.

Vice President Oilouch expressed his commitment to fight illegal drugs. “We need public support, judicial system, legislature, parole board and everyone to contribute to the fight against drugs.”

With regards to recent incidence with 911 call, Vice President Oilouch admitted that not everything within the system is perfect despite every effort to improve and again urge public support and understanding whilst the Ministry continues to implement improvement.

In addition, Minister of Justice reported that the new correctional facility being constructed in Ngchesar State will be completed in year 2020 and a transition committee has been created to ensure smooth transition before the facility opens. (L.N. Reklai)
