July 3, 2017 (Koror, Palau) High number of reported cases of dengue fever attributed to consolidation of reported cases from public hospital and private clinics as well as the heightened awareness of dengue in the community.
“The numbers are as close to true number of existing cases that we have had,” affirmed Minister of Health Dr. Emais Roberts.
“Before, cases reported were only those identified at the national hospital. We have since begun to collect reports from the private clinics and consolidating the reports with Public Health data. That’s why you see big increase in May and June,” he added.
Minister Roberts added that the data not only provided accurate number but also showed what works. “Ngermid and Ngerchemai were showing highest number of infections. Since they cleaned and sprayed those areas, we see numbers drop. This shows that clean-up effort works to reduce number of cases.”
Ministry of Health continue to actively monitor the incidents and increase public awareness campaign in the communities. [/restrict]
