October 6, 2017 (Koror, Palau) A suspect in the rape and murder of a 48 year old chinese woman in her home in the early morning hours yesterday, was found and arrested yesterday evening. 


The suspect, a Palauan male in his twenties, was identified in ta CCTV camera footage obtained by the CID investigators at the scene.

The suspect was arrested last night and brought in to questioning. He admitted to committing the crimes and is being held in custody, according to Minister of Justice Raynold Oilouch.

At around 3am yesterday morning, police were called to investigate a possible burglary and injury at a home in Ngerbeched.

A Mr. Haibu Sun, a chinese national returning from airport found his house looking like it had been burglarized and his wife unresponsive.  Mr. Sun called the police and the police arrived to find a lifeless body of Ms. Yan Li.

Sources report that body did not have any visible wounds. Cause of death has not been stated by official sources.

In the course of investigation, police obtained a CCTV camera and were able to get an image of a possible suspect.  This led to the arrest of the suspect who is now in custody.

“We are doing our best to keep our community safe.  We have many foot patrols not only in the main roads but also making rounds of the neighborhoods.  It is unfortunate that incidents such as this still manage to occur.  I’ve instructed our police chiefs to prioritize this case as well as the recent boat accident.  We need to bring results to the families of the victims as soon as possible,” stated Vice President and Minister of Justice Raynold Oilouch.
