In the fall of the 2005–2006 academic year, the late Speaker Tadao Ngotel established a private scholarship with the vision of supporting students from Ngarchelong in pursuing their higher education goals. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Speaker Tadao Ngotel Scholarship, one of the private scholarship programs administered by the Palau National Scholarship Board (PNSB).
The scholarship provides a one-time award of $500.00 to a graduating high school senior of Ngarchelong citizenship who plans to enroll in college. To be considered, a student must also maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
For the 2025–2026 academic year, the Speaker Tadao Ngotel Scholarship has been awarded to Ms. Jenna Namiko Morning-Star, a recent graduate of Mindszenty High School. Ms. Morning-Star is now pursuing her degree in business at Mesa Community College in Arizona and hopes to return one day and contribute to her island nation of Palau.
The late Speaker Ngotel was a strong advocate for higher education. In his honor, his daughter, Mrs. Merly Kuartei, has pledged to continue supporting this scholarship for as long as she is able, ensuring that his legacy of investing in Ngarchelong’s future generations lives on.
