KOROR, Palau — The Palau National Youth & Cheldebechel Council (NYCC) announced plans to host the inaugural Dil Belau Contest on Aug. 21, 2025, to select a young Palauan woman who will serve as a youth ambassador, advocate and role model for Palau’s young people.

In a statement, the council said the event aims to empower young women through leadership, advocacy and cultural awareness. Organizers stressed that the contest is not a “Miss Palau” pageant but a platform for selecting a representative to work with the NYCC.

“We believe this Dil Belau event should be more than a beauty contest,” the statement said. “It is an important platform that empowers young Palauan women to be heard, to lead, and to inspire.”

While the contest date has been set, the venue is still being finalized, said Irang Ngirachokebai, who attended an NYCC planning meeting on July 29.

Five contestants will compete, representing the states of Ngarchelong, Ngatpang, Airai, Koror and Peleliu. Some states were unable to send a representative due to a lack of candidates or eligibility issues.

Pre-contest activities began this week, including the production of introductory videos to be released soon, according to NYCC. Contestants will be judged on leadership, advocacy skills and cultural knowledge.

The winner will receive a monthly stipend, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. She will formally join the NYCC as a youth representative, tasked with advocating for young people across the country and the region.

“The skills being evaluated in the contest directly reflect the role and responsibilities that Dil Belau will have within the NYCC,” the council said.
