YAREN (NAURU MEDIA) — A momentous occasion on Friday 16 May in Nauru as over 40 individuals officially became citizens in a formal ceremony that underscored the nation’s commitment to welcoming new members into its community.
The event also marks the opening of Nauru’s 57th Anniversary of Constitution Day celebration.
President of Nauru His Excellency David Adeang, urged the newly citizens to stand behind Nauru in all its endeavours, applying their expertise to foster collective progress while always acting in the best interests of their new homeland.
“These individuals now embrace not only Nauru’s growing prosperity but also the inherent rights and duties that come with being part of this humble yet resilient nation.”
President Adeang then presented the official certificate, a symbolic and significant document of their status as full members of the nation.
The cohorts then pledged their allegiance as Acting Chief Justice, His Honour Justice Kini Viliame Keteca, solemnly administered the citizenship oath, marking their official transition to becoming Nauruan nationals.
The ceremony also featured an address by the Secretary for Justice & Border Control, Janmai Udit, who articulated the profound meaning of Nauruan citizenship and the responsibilities that come with it.
Emphasising the principles of national unity, duty, and contribution, the Secretary emphasised the importance of active civic engagement and service to the country.
Lisa Karl, representing the newly sworn citizens, took the podium to convey her profound appreciation to the Republic of Nauru and its government for the invaluable opportunity granted to them.
She reiterated her confidence that the new citizens will actively contribute to the nation’s development and uphold the principles that define Nauru as a remarkable and resilient island nation.
