KOROR, Palau — Palau has initiated efforts to modernize its legislative processes through the “OEK National Congress Digital Transformation Project,” a collaboration with Taiwan aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in governance.
With Taiwan’s technical support, the project introduces upgraded audio-visual equipment, strengthened cybersecurity measures, and an electronic voting system for the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK), Palau’s National Congress. The initiative aligns with Taiwan’s broader vision for digital governance and is expected to serve as a model for modernization efforts across the Pacific.
On March 28, the Embassy of Taiwan in Palau, alongside members of the Senate and House of Delegates, marked the completion of the project’s first phase with a site visit. Taiwan’s Ambassador to Palau, Jessica Lee, and Minister Franklin Chen joined Palauan Senators Kerai Mariur and TJ Imrur Remengesau in observing the newly implemented technologies. Engineers from Taiwan demonstrated the advancements, emphasizing their potential to streamline legislative operations and improve public accessibility.
Officials from both nations expressed optimism about continued collaboration in strengthening digital governance. The project is seen as a step toward fostering greater transparency and efficiency in Palau’s legislative process.
