Koror, Palau – The Palau National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert, prompting the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) to advise caution for mariners.

A red flag small craft warning has been issued for Angaur and Kayangel States, signifying dangerous conditions for small vessels. The rest of Palau is under a white flag warning, indicating caution is advised.

Forecasters predict a tropical cyclone or depression could develop within the next 24 hours, bringing thunderstorms with winds below 39 mph. This system is expected to track northwest toward the Philippine Sea, impacting Palau with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and rough seas.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and remain vigilant for potential landslides in hilly areas and flooding in low-lying zones.

Boaters are strongly encouraged to take all necessary precautions, adhere to maritime safety regulations, and avoid navigating in areas with rough seas. (By: L.N. Reklai)
