Koror, Palau – The Palau Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) has appointed Chief Temedik Ngireblekuu of the Division of Maritime Security and Fish & Wildlife Protection as its new acting director, according to a memorandum issued this week. Ngireblekuu replaces Chief Kenny Sengebau, who had served as acting director since March 14th.

The announcement comes amid ongoing questions about the BPS’s leadership. Former Director Cary Levitre resigned in March, but President Surangel Whipps Jr. reportedly did not accept the resignation. Despite remaining on the job title-wise, Levitre has been out of the country for nearly eight months. During this period, the BPS has been led by a series of acting directors, raising concerns about continuity and stability.

The new appointment offers no specific end date, but the memorandum states the BPS is transitioning to a “new phase of leadership.”
