The 2018 Oceania Wrestling Championships was held in Guam from May 18-20, 2018 at the Leo Palace Resort.
The teams that competed were Australia, American Samoa, FSM, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Marshalls, Tahiti and the host country, Guam. During this major event, Palau was able to capture four gold medals and two silver and two bronze medals.
Competing for Palau were Cristian Nicolescu, Blesam Tarkong, Skarlee Renguul and Florian Temengil.
Temengil led the Palau team by defeating his opponents from Tahiti and American Samoa in both the Freestyle and Greco Roman Heavyweight categories to win 2 Gold Medals.
Cristian Etpison Niclescu probably had the most exciting match of the day but coming short of winning the gold on day 1 of the tournament.
After shooting attempts on his opponent and spinning behind, some of the referee calls were questionable as Guam eventually won the freestyle match to win gold.
On day two of the Greco Roman Style, Cristian won the gold medal in the Greco Roman 67kg weight class.
Blesam Tarkong competed in the Mens FS 70kg division and was the first to score and lead the match but Guam came back to take the lead came short of winning the gold against Guam.
Blesam won Gold the next day in Greco Roman 72kg division.
Skarlee Renguul also won 1 bronze medal in men’s freestyle 86kg and Greco roman 82kg class. (PR)
