Each year on November 21st, World Fisheries Day is celebrated internationally. Yesterday, Uchul A Chei Fishers and Northern Reef Fishing Cooperative collaborated to invite fishers from across Palau to join the celebration by spending the day on the waters of the Northern Reef. Participants hailed from Kayangel, Ngarchelong, Ngardmau, Koror and several organizations such as the NgaraMaiberel and D’makeiukl. Governor Dwight Ngiraibai made a special visit to see the fishers off at Ollei Port and provided safety support to the 4 fishing boats.

The highlight of the day was the opportunity for the fishers to engage with one another. Having spent the day on the water, the men and women fishers shared some of their skill and experience while making new memories with new friends. The collective managed to bring home two coolers full of fish which were donated to the Ministry of Health & Human Services. The outing was made possible through support from OneReef and USAID OurFish OurFuture Project.
