President Suangel Whipps Jr. this week issued a presidential declaration in observance of World Oceans Day.

World Ocean’s Day is an annual observance celebrated on June 8 by the United Nations and other international organizations.  It is a day to celebrate the ocean and raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation.

In Presidential Declaration Np.23- 349, Whipps urged the community to take part in marking the special event.

The theme for World Oceans Day 2023 is “Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing.” This theme aims to raise awareness of the importance of the ocean and the need to protect it.

The proclamation said that Palau had been a staunch advocate for the protection and sustainable use of ocean resources.

Palau, it said, has made strides in the protection of the ocean and promotion of sustainable use of the ocean.

The 2023 theme is a call to action for everyone to make a difference by reducing our consumption of single-use plastics, supporting sustainable seafood, and advocating for policies that protect the ocean.
