Mr. Sherlock Madlutk, a Junior at Portland State University arrived in Palau in late June to begin his eight (8) week internship with the Palau Judiciary. Intern Madlutk began work on July 4, 2016. He is detailed to the Probation Office under the supervision of Chief Probation Officer, Ms. Clara Rechebei.

Intern Madlutk is currently studying Criminology & Criminal Justice with a minor in Civic Leadership. He is interested in pursuing a career in Probation Services. When asked, why an interest in the Probation Office, he responds: “Seeing people making positive changes in their lives, contribution to crime prevention & rehabilitation of offenders and the sense that you are helping to minimize the number of other victims.”
The Palau Judiciary is proud to be a partner in offering students interested in law, public administration, criminal justice, and social services a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience. The internship program places students in their desired area of interest so that they may gain hands-on experience. Once immersed in a department, students have the chance to learn about the work done in their field of interest. The Courts strive to expose students to a professional work environment, while giving them the tools they need to be successful.
This internship was funded through the Palau Fellowship Award created by RPPL No. 8-43 amended by RPPL No. 9-43 that encourages Palauan students who study abroad to return to Palau and to become familiar with the current issues and job opportunities that they may wish to participate in once they return home after obtaining their degree. The ultimate goal of this program is to ensure that the Republic produces and retains well educated Palauan leaders for our community. [/restrict]
