KOROR, Palau — The Century Mission, a record-breaking attempt to circumnavigate the globe westbound in a Learjet, arrives in Koror, Palau, on April 5th for a brief stopover. This ambitious journey, aiming to raise funds for the restoration of the first Learjet ever built, places Palau in the spotlight as part of a historic aviation feat.
The Global Jet Care Learjet 36A R/X, piloted by Captain Bart Gray, is scheduled to touch down at Koror International Airport (PTRO) at 12:00 PM local time. After a short 42-minute break, the aircraft will depart for Singapore (WSSL). Media interested in interviewing the crew for this leg can contact APFFCo at 680/488-8580.
Challenging the Westward Route
Unlike previous record-setting flights that capitalized on tailwinds by traveling eastbound, the Century Mission tackles the westbound route, encountering headwinds and creating a new benchmark for similar category aircraft.
Commemorating a Legacy
This mission coincides with the 100th anniversary of the first-ever around-the-world flight, The World Flight of 1924, which took 175 days. The Century Mission aims to complete the journey in a staggering 54 hours and 30 minutes, a testament to advancements in aviation technology.
Public Welcome Awaits
A public welcome ceremony is planned upon the team’s return to Wichita, Kansas, on April 6th, with a tentative landing time of 2:00 PM local time. The event, held at Bombardier – Building 14, One Learjet Way, offers an opportunity to witness the aircraft’s arrival and interact with the crew.
Palau’s Participation in a Global Endeavor
Palau’s involvement in the Century Mission marks a significant moment for the island nation. As a crucial stop on this record-breaking journey, Palau contributes to the advancement of aviation history.
