Palau and United States representatives will meet in Hawaii on October 26 for the annual Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) dealing with security and defense issues, as provided under the Compact of Free-Association. [restrict]
In that meeting, Palau and U.S. is expected to discuss anew the radar systems the U.S. plans to build to maritime domain awareness to enhance, maritime law enforcement capability in Palau territorial waters and exclusive economic zone while also providing the United States with air domain awareness for aviation safety and security.
Oilouch in earlier interviews said that the JCM meeting to be held in Hawaii will likely conclude the negotiations on the radar sites.
In a meeting in August, the U.S. has proposed the installation system and said that it will make formal its request based on Compact terms by the end of September.
Oilouch said as of yesterday no formal request or diplomatic note has been sent.
The formal request will ask Palau to make available the identified sites to the United States within 60 days.(B. Carreon)
