A 23-year-old Palauan has been offered a scholarship to join Taiwan’s national team that competes in international games after Taiwanese coaches were wowed by his great potential.
Baseball player Ray Rumong arrived at the Palau International Airport (PIA) on October 23 along with his team mates from the Palau Major League Baseball (PMLB) who were fresh from Taiwan after competing in the Asia Oceania Tournament.
Rumong shared that the offer came to him after Taiwanese coaches who came to Palau saw him played baseball here and also in Taiwan.
The young athlete said that he is still considering the offer, stressing that he gives high regard for his education, work, and baseball career that he is currently enjoying in Palau.
It is not yet clear, however, what specific offers will be given to him but Rumong said that it will be much more enticing if it will come with the assurance of having a secure, free education while having a baseball career.
Rumong took interest in baseball since he was still young and had been part of the PMLB for around eight years. He took inspiration from his idol baseball player David Ortiz and also from his dad and uncle who also play baseball. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
