The Palauan community in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Island (CNMI) is requesting funding to hold a Palauan concert funding event scheduled on August 10. 2024.
CNMI’s Palauan Community Association ( PCA) Vice-President Thelma Madracheluib Mizer in a letter to the Senate President Hokkons Baules thanked Olbiil Era Kelulau ( OEK) for recently passing $100,000 funding for the Bai Project.
The letter added that they need further support for their upcoming concert.
“This enjoyable and memorable event is a testament to the commitment of our members and the broader community. However to make this event a success, we need sufficient funds to meet our financial needs, “ the letter stated.
The PCA, she said, would appreciate any monetary donations or any level of support. Donations made will be acknowledged during the concert and on the association’s social media platform.
Meanwhile, some Palauans in Palau are saying that this practice is becoming unbearable. While Palau is not able to fully meet its own needs such as providing adequate health care locally, fully supplying and equipping public safety and funding education, and having to piecemeal funds to cover basic needs, the Palau government is sending money to Palauans that have chosen to live and work outside of Palau, contributing taxes to the communities they live in. Given that it is election season, the government will continue to fork hard-earned tax dollars to support Palauans overseas.
