An intern at the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) helps in conducting surveys in Ngardmau State to understand the communities’ perceptions on marine management.

The intern, Meangeldil Ayla Azuma Malsol, is Biology major with a specialization in Pre-health at Simpson University in Redding California.

Meangeldil has been interning at PICRC since June 4th with her mentor Lincy Marino on a socio-economic project

The information gathered from the project will provide assistance to resource managers and state leaders to identify potential issues and make informed management decisions.

The project involves conducting socio-economic surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of PAN sites and Marine Protected Areas on the livelihood of local communities. (PR)
