Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) announced that internet services will be down for about 45 minutes in the early morning (4 am) of the 26th while Belau Submarine Cable Corporation conduct the required maintenance of their fiber optic network.
Internet services were restored on Friday, July 21st, a day earlier than planned, to the delight of many people who have been off the internet for 3 ½ days while SEA-US submarine cable underwent repairs for damages sustained during typhoon Mawar in Guam.
The 3 and ½ days without the internet did not create chaos as anticipated. Due to advance announcements, people prepared ahead of time by downloading favorite shows and programs, while others used the opportunity to have more face-to-face interactions with family and friends.
With the connection of the second submarine cable in 2025, internet outages may become a faded memory. The second submarine cable will provide redundancy in case of internet disruptions, ensuring connectivity and reliability of internet connection. (By: L.N. Reklai)
