Palau National Scholarship Board has completed the first part of reviewing and awarding of this new school year 2017-2018 applications for PNSB financial assistance. So far, the Scholarship Board is happy to report that among this year’s recipients are 5 outstanding students who were declared eligible to receive full scholarships. A recipient of the Palau Full Scholarship must be at least in his or her junior/senior college standing, major in a priority field, be a full-time student with at least a minimum cumulative grade point average (gpa) of 3.5 or higher.

Based on these qualifications, PNSB awards the full scholarship according to the amount certified as the financial need of the student. PNSB disburses the first half of the scholarship award in the fall semester. The remaining half will be awarded at the beginning of the spring semester provided the student maintains his or her enrollment as proven by submission of grade reports/transcripts and class schedules. The Board reports that for this semester (fall 2017), PNSB has awarded a little over 1.2 million to 180 students or about 66% of the total applicants.
The other 34% are pending review following the “30-day Window” allowance given for postmarked items provided for under existing PNSB Regulations. PNSB will accept and review items postmarked on or before the deadline (July 31, 2017) and received within 30 calendar days. The increase in the Scholarship Fund as well as the portion of foreign worker fees/permit fees that are being deposited into the Scholarship Fund has truly helped the Palauan students. PNSB awards are reportedly at the highest since the scholarship program started.
In addition to the 5 full scholarships awarded, 53 students were also awarded their total financial need in the form of grants, scholarships and or student loans. Dr. Christopher Kitalong, PNSB Chairperson, hopes to see the number of recipients increase and encourages the young Palauans to go to college.
At the same time, Palau Fellowship Award (8 week – internship program) is available for recent college juniors/seniors/recent college graduates to apply. The next deadline is November 01,, 2017 for an internship during the winter or spring semester.
