The Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) is eyeing to double the number of participation for this year’s Konqer, a regional obstacle race event, slated in Palau on October 5-26.
PVA Chairman of the Board Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl said that last year, Konqer had been able to gather 200 participants and around 800 spectators.
“We’re looking to grow that and we feel that we can even double that number because we have enough time to pull all the agencies,” Tmetuchl said.
PVA Operations and Program Director Kadoi Ruluked, in the same interview, also said that they want Konqer to become a springboard for the Iron Man Challenge.
“We are also turning it into an annual sports events by reaching out to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, US for participants and it is always about creating awareness to healthy lifestyle, teamwork,” Ruluked said.
Meanwhile, PVA Chair Tmetuchl said that they are looking at two possible sites to hold the event and these would be the Rock Islands in Airai and the second site will be in Ngardmau.
Tmetuchl said that they wanted the event to be moved around Palau so that every state will be given a chance to hold the event.
