” A person will be tested before going into quarantine and after a week, that person would be tested again before boarding a plane to Palau. Once he or she arrives in Palau, she will be quarantined for 14 days and tested before being released “
Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Emergency Committee(NEC)are planning to scale down the quarantine procedures after the experience of handling and implementing the third repatriation flight to Palau according to Minister of Health Dr. Emais Roberts.
The success of the operations gave MOH and NEC more confidence in the process and feel that the system in place, which exceeds recommended CDC protocols, can be scaled down a bit while continuing to minimize risk to the community.
Couple of the recommendations to scale down the protocols include eliminating the requirement for self-quarantine after the government quarantines and testings have been done. Minister Roberts said that this requirement was put in place in the beginning when we did not have robust system of quarantine and testing.
Also recommended is cutting down the number of quarantine days in Guam from two weeks to one week. A person will be tested before going into quarantine and after a week, that person would be tested again before boarding a plane to Palau. Once he or she arrives in Palau, she will be quarantined for 14 days and tested before being released.
Meanwhile, plans are underway for four flights to arrive in July. One of the flights will originate in Taiwan, to bring back patients and returning back to Taiwan with new medical referrals. Another flight is the 4rd repatriation flight from Guam (four counting from Taiwan and one from Guam to date). Third will be a flight to bring in the new CAT Team to replace the current team here. The fourth flight is also US military bringing in over 100 military personnel to repair Peleliu Airport and to do some community projects.
Details of these arrivals are still being worked out but EOC communication chief Edolm Ikerdeu confirmed that the 100 plus US military are already on the way, will be at sea for more than 20 days with no stops before coming to Palau.
