KOROR, Palau (April 22, 2026) — The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection has sworn in Mr. Bradley O. Kumangai as the new Chief of Immigration, filling a position that had been vacant for a period of time within the Division of Immigration.
The swearing-in ceremony was held Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Immigration Office in Koror, filling an important post that has been vacant for quite sometime.
Mr. Kumangai took his oath of office administered by the Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, Curtis Elobt. The ceremony was witnessed by Acting Director of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, Joline S. Spesungel, along with Chief of Border Management and Enforcement Clint Mersai, Chief of Biosecurity Devon Andreas, and Chief of Corporate Services Robert Tarkong. Immigration officers and members of Kumangai’s family also attended.
Kumangai brings extensive experience in law enforcement and public service. He previously served with the Bureau of Public Safety and later with the Special Prosecutor’s Office. He also currently serves as chairman of the board of directors for PNCC and as a church deacon.
Officials said his background in enforcement and institutional oversight positions him to strengthen immigration operations and inter-agency coordination.
As Chief of Immigration, Kumangai will oversee border control and immigration operations, enforce immigration laws and regulations, and support modernization efforts within the division..
The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection welcomed Kumangai into the role, expressing confidence that his leadership will support the agency’s mission and broader public safety goals.
