President Tommy Remengesau, Jr., due to his inability to attend the Pacific Islands Forum that is going to be held in Nauru on September 3 to 6, has appointed Minister of State Faustina Rehuher-Marugg as Special Envoy.

Remengesau, in his letter to Nauru President Baron Divavesi Waqa dated August 23, expressed his regret for being unable to attend the forum.

Remengesau also took the opportunity to mention proposed discussions during the PIF leaders retreat on the Our Ocean Conference 2020, Renewable Energy, Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, and Non-Communicable Diseases, saying that Minister Rehuher-Marugg will elaborate on the topics during the meeting.

“…It is my hope that our region can revitalize the significant effect of these issues and the potential of tackling them through regionalism and a united Blue Pacific,” the letter reads.

Palau’s president also congratulates Nauru President Waqa for his chairmanship of the forum. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
