After the controversy surrounding the termination of Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) Chief Finance Officer Hashinta Idechong over alleged tampering of information on public document and insubordination, the PPUC had appointed an acting CFO.
PPUC, in a statement issued to Island Times, named its acting CFO, Aline Rehuher, who is PPUC’s Accounting and Finance Manager and whose line of work in the Accounting and Finance Department has already spanned 21 years. She was also a Joint Acting Chief Financial Officer for three years, according to the statement.
In the same statement, PPUC Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board Gregorio Decherong is said to be confident that PPUC staff and Board of Directors are focused on ensuring that their operations are not disrupted by the recent revamp of its top officers.
“A matter of equal importance is ensuring that with the leadership’s direction, it’ll affect positive changes, continuous improvements, and an overall corporate attitude for excellence,’ the statement reads.
As a response to the public’s request to publish the termination letter of PPUC’s ex-CFO Idechong, the statement also pointed out that PPUC cannot disclose the letter as it is considered “personal information” based on RPPL 9-65 also known as “The Privacy Act”.
Idechong was sacked on August 17 on allegations of tampering information on a document and insubordination.
Island Times had reached out many times to new PPUC Chairman Decherong to be able to shed light on some information surrounding the issue but is still awaiting response from the officer as of press time. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
