President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. has congratulated France on the French soccer team’s “magnificent” FIFA World Cup victory. France won the championship on Sunday evening after defeating Croatia with a score of 4-2 in Moscow`s Luzhniki stadium in a stunning match.

In an official signed letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, President Remengesau wrote “on behalf of the people of the Republic of Palau, I congratulate you and all of the people of France on your magnificent FIFA World Cup win!… Please convey my very best compliments to your national team and their coach for defeating the odds and bringing another World Cup to the French Republic. Vive la France!”

President Remengesau also stated in his letter that he was congratulating France on behalf of the Palau football enthusiasts who had watched the match. He wrote “I certainly express our congratulations on behalf of all of the members of our Palau Football Association who cheered on during the exciting six-goal thriller.”

Numerous world leaders, among them US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, United Arab Emirates President Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have congratulated France on its football victory.
