A Japan-based non-profit organization had donated several equipment to the Koror State Government (KSG) which will be used in conducting tourism carrying capacity assessment in famous Rock Island tourist sites.

A handover ceremony was conducted at the Koror State Constitution Hall on October 11 that was attended by Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) Executive Director Junko Chano, SPF Senior Program Officer Hideyuki Shiozawa and other KSG officials.

Six omnidirectional cameras, underwater housing cases, four data hard case, six slik tripods, six inflatable water trampolines, six micro USB cable, tablet-type device, and a time lapse camera, among others were handed over to KSG’s Department of Conservation and Law Enforcement.

The donated instruments will be used to carry out surveys in tourist-frequented sites to assess their carrying capacity as part of the conservation initiatives.

SPF Executive Director Chano, in her speech, said that the project idea came from the people of Palau themselves who expressed concern about conserving the Rock Island Southern Lagoon.

Two surveys had already been conducted since 2018 and the two parties will continue to work together on this endeavor, Executive Director Chano said. (Rhealyn Pojas)
