A young Palauan was chosen to work as assistant aide of an influential Taiwanese businessman.

Emily Loughlin, who can speak conversational Mandarin after studying Biology in Taiwan, was hired to work as assistant secretary of the Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su (SKH) Memorial Hospital Chairman Eugene T.C. Wu.

In an interview with the media, Loughlin said that she got the position in September after Chairman Wu decided to hire a Palauan who will work closely with him after he was awarded the honorary citizenship by the Palau government.

Loughlin, who graduated from the Palau Community College (PCC) five years ago as top of her class, said that she feels proud working for the prominent Taiwanese businessman who is known for his contributions to Palau in the area of health.

“It feels like a lot of pressure because he is a very generous person and [he has] the high expectations as well,” Loughlin divulged when asked by the media what it feels like working for Chairman Wu.

Loughlin said that is always in her mind to make Palau proud wherever she goes especially when she is representing the nation.

When Mr. Wu was invited to address the sixth joint session of 10th Olbiil Era Kelulau on October 10 at Palau’s National Capitol, Loughlin helped arranged the event and the trip to Palau. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
