Palau’s National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) announced Wednesday that all schools would be closed on Thursday, September 12, due to a monsoon surge bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
NEMO, a government agency responsible for emergency response, made the decision following a meeting of its representatives.
In addition to school closures, NEMO issued a Small Craft Warning, advising against boat travel inside and outside the reef. The National Weather Service predicted rainfall of 5 to 10 inches, seas of 9 to 13 feet, and wind gusts exceeding 35 miles per hour during the period.
The public was warned of potential mudslides, landslides, and road blockages. NEMO urged residents to report any incidents to its emergency hotline at 587-6366.
