The first face-to-face debate between the two presidential candidates for Palau’s 2024 general election — incumbent President Surangel Whipps Jr. and former President Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. — will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The debate is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Palau Community College Assembly Hall.

Hosted by the Palau Media Council and Palau Community College, the event is themed “Fostering Open, Insightful Debate and Public Discourse: Ensuring Well-Informed Voters.” It aims to provide a platform for both candidates to express their views on key issues important to the people of Palau.

Debate questions will be organized into four thematic areas: Economy, Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Governance.

The debate will be live-streamed on television, YouTube, Facebook Live, and radio through various Palauan media outlets and covered by the two local print newspapers.  The event is sponsored by the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS).
