KOROR, Palau — A new book featuring Palauan legends written in the Palauan language offers young readers an opportunity to learn traditional stories while strengthening their native language skills.
Funded by the Sasakawa Foundation, the Palau High School Students’ Science Club compiled the collection of legends and folklore.
“We went on field trips to cultural sites and visited the Belau National Museum to research this book for children, so they can learn about Palau,” said Lana Marques, one of the student authors.
The book will be distributed to schools and is not available for sale. However, there are plans for a future reprint. Minister Ngirai Tmetuch of the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism & Development said the book may eventually be sold as part of an effort to raise funds for similar cultural programs in schools.
