Celebrating 30th Anniversary of Palau Independence and 25 Years of Diplomatic Relationship with Taiwan

In celebrating of the 30th Anniversary of Palau Independence and the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relationships between Taiwan and Palau, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has generously donated $24,662 to sponsor the kickoff event of the Independence Day: the 1st Palau International Baseball Classic tournament. The check handover ceremony took place on March 12, 2024. President of the Palau Major League, Mlib Tmetuchl, received the check on behalf the tournament organizer, witnessed by the Minister Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development, Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl.

In her remarks, Ambassador Jessica Lee noted beside the shared value of democracy, freedom, and human rights, this international tournament has also shown that Taiwan and Palau share a common enthusiasm for baseball as a national sports. She also expressed her pleasure in supporting this meaningful inaugural international baseball tournament organized by Palau Major League and Taiwan International Baseball Interchange Development Association, which underscores the 25 years of the enduring friendship.  She hoped this game can not only boost the cooperation in sports and cultural exchange, but also serve as stimulus for Palau’s tourism industries. The 2024 1st Palau International Baseball Classic is planning to hold on June 5th to June 12th, 2024, at the Palau Asahi Field, is organized by the Palau Major League and Taiwan International Baseball Interchange Development Association, with the Taiwan Embassy as the sole official sponsor. This event aims to establish the first world class baseball tournament in Palau, foster goodwill
