Taiwan Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu will be visiting Palau to pay tribute to the late President Thomas Remengesau, Sr. who will be laid to rest on August 23 in Ngaraard State.
Foreign Minister Wu will attend the state funeral of Remengesau, Sr. which is going to be held at the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK) rotunda at 9:30 am after a mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Koror.
No other details about Wu’s visit has been shared yet by the Republic of China – Taiwan Embassy.
Meanwhile, the Office of the President also said that other foreign government officials such as the Guam Governor Lourdes Aflague Leon Guerrero, the Federated States of Micronesia Vice President Yosiwo George, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Governor Ralph Torres and CNMI Chief Justice Alexandro Castro and representatives of Australia, American Samoa, Russia, and Vietnam have also confirmed their attendance for the state funeral.
Taiwanese businessman Eugene T.C. Wu, chairman of the Shin Kong Group, and Mr. Chin-Sheng Ling of the PRR Group are also going to attend.
The Times previously reported that Remengesau, Sr passed away at the age of 89 in his residence in Medalaii, Koror at around 3:30pm on August 3. He was Palau’s fourth president.
He was Palau’s Vice President from 1985 to 1988 but had to assume the presidential post after the tragic deaths of the country’s previous two presidents. (By Rhealyn C. Pojas)
