The European Union (EU) Ambassador to the Republic of Palau and the Pacific, H. E Andrew Jacobs had fruitful discussions on the EU-Palau cooperation, regional economic integration, sustainable management of natural resources and climate change with the President of Palau, H.E Tommy Remengesau Jr. and H.E Vice President Raynold Oilouch in the Palauan capital today.

Ambassador Jacobs congratulated H.E Remengesau Jr. on his re-election as the President of Palau in November 2016 and had discussions on the 2014 – 2020 11th European Union Development (EDF11) bilateral programming of EUR 1.6 million. Support from the EU will improve social and economic development, increase resilience to climate change and reduce poverty.
”The Republic of Palau is a valued EU partner and the EU is proud to be supporting some the key priorities identified by the Government of Palau. Sustainable energy remains the priority sector under 11th EDF. The EU will also support civil society to enhance participation in policy dialogue, in monitoring of national programmes, economic reforms and public finance management with particular emphasis on climate change and environmental conservation,” said Ambassador Jacobs.
During his three-day visit, Ambassador Jacobs had further meetings with the Minister of State, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment & Tourism, Director of Palau Energy Office, National Authorising Officer, Climate Change Coordinator, Chamber of Commerce and international organisations such as the United Nations Development Programme Joint Presence Office.
This was the last official visit of the Ambassador before the end of his assignment later this year.
The European Union will continue to support the Palau Government until 2020 under the 11th European Development Fund. [/restrict]
