KOROR, Palau — The Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) will begin conducting random vehicle checkpoints in Koror and Babeldaob starting in April 2025, running through December. The initiative aims to enforce traffic laws, detect impaired driving, and ensure compliance with vehicle regulations.
The checkpoints will allow officers to stop vehicles at designated locations to check for valid driver’s licenses, up-to-date vehicle registration, and signs of impaired or reckless driving. Officers will also be looking for other violations, including expired documentation and unsafe vehicles.
The goal is “enhance public safety and uphold and enforce national laws, thereby maintaining peace and harmony within our community,” BPS Director Curtis T. Elobt said. He urged to exercise caution when approaching checkpoints.
“We request that all motorists reduce their speed and cooperate with police officers by following their instructions,” said Elobt.
Authorities stressed that these measures are in place to maintain peace and safety on the roads. Motorists must carry a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration, which must be presented upon request.
The BPS encourages drivers to stay informed and comply with traffic laws. For more information, the public can contact the Division of Patrol Central at 488-1422 or 488-5000.
Police thanked the community for its cooperation in promoting safer roads. (By: Eustoria Marie Borja)
