A fishing outing on a calm Saturday afternoon turned tragic when one of the fisherman, a well-liked Legislator of Koror State and businessman Vann Isaac failed to return to the boat at around 5pm on May 16th, 2020. Isaac with three other companions were fishing off Aimeliik waters near Ngerchebal islet according to confirmed reports from Ministry of Justice.

A call was made to Koror State Rangers after 5pm to report that he had failed to surface and asked for assistance.  Koror Rangers informed Public Safety and sent Rangers out to search.  Boats from both Koror State Rangers, national Marine Law Enforcement, Bureau of Public Safety and volunteers went out to conduct the search.  Sources say about 18 boats and numerous volunteers were out looking for him.

Report said that when his bantum (a small floating container device used to keep speared fish) was found, they were able see him close by.  He was found around 11pm on Saturday night.

No official cause of death has been released.

Legislator Vann Isaac, a 43-year old man, a widower with young children, was serving his second term as Koror State Legislator, was actively involved in his community, in sports, mentoring and serving as role model for many young men in his community. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Palau Visitor’s Authority.
