PALAU — The annual Pacific Partnership mission, led by the United States, has returned to the Indo-Pacific region, uniting eight partner nations—including Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, and Canada—in a multinational effort to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

The mission, which began nearly two decades ago, focuses on strengthening interoperability among partner nations through medical, engineering, and community outreach projects. It aims to foster long-term regional partnerships while improving local healthcare and disaster response infrastructure.

Commander Crystal Chinako, Director of Medical Operations for Pacific Partnership 25, highlighted the mission’s focus on collaboration. “Yesterday, I learned about the story of the breadfruit tree, which deeply resonated with me,” she said. “There is a legend about a god who gave himself to plant a breadfruit tree, which then sustained and nurtured generations of people. Just like that tree, our doctors, engineers, medical personnel, and partner nations come together, giving their time and skills to plant the seeds for something lasting.”

Chinako, who also participated in the mission’s 2022 visit to Palau, said returning to the region reflects the ongoing commitment of partner nations. “We represent a much larger team, and our role here is to lay the groundwork and finalize plans alongside the community. We truly appreciate the incredible support we’ve received,” she said.

Pacific Partnership 2025 is scheduled to run from September 22 to October 6. The mission is expected to strengthen regional ties, improve disaster preparedness, and support health initiatives across the Indo-Pacific.
