Overview:

UK Ambassador to Palau Sarah Hulton has visited Koror to deepen cooperation on education and climate resilience, meeting government officials and partners to explore new areas of collaboration between Palau and the United Kingdom.

Koror, Palau – Sarah Hulton, the non-resident UK Ambassador to Palau, recently visited the country to strengthen ties and explore opportunities for collaboration.

During her visit, Ambassador Hulton met with senior government officials and key partners, including the Palau National Scholarship Board, to promote the UK’s Chevening Scholarship programme. Chevening is the UK Government’s flagship global scholarship, offering fully funded one-year master’s degrees at leading UK universities to individuals with leadership potential and a commitment to driving positive change in their home countries.

Applications for Chevening are expected to open in August and typically close between early October and November, with successful candidates beginning their studies in the UK the following academic year. To support prospective applicants in Palau, the British Embassy Manila will host an online Chevening Roadshow in August, offering practical guidance on the application process. Further information is available at https://www.chevening.org.

Ahead of the Pacific Islands Forum in August, Ambassador Hulton also visited communities to better understand the impact of climate change on Palau. She met with a representative from The Nature Conservancy and visited projects supported by UK funding through the UN Global Coral Reef Fund.

These initiatives are helping to protect coral reef ecosystems, restore damaged reefs, and support women-led communities to develop solutions that combine environmental conservation with sustainable livelihoods.

The UK remains committed to working in partnership with Palau to advance climate action and strengthen environmental resilience, and looks forward to further discussions at the Pacific Islands Forum.
